Dear readers,
Once again, I am shocked to discover how quickly a week or so can pass, I trust you are all well!
First I would like to mention that we are currently on the last day of 'Bees’ Needs Week 2020', a brilliant campaign which runs from the 13th to the 19th of July and is about raising awareness of bees and other pollinators and how we can support them. They offer useful links and resources for workplaces and families. https://www.bumblebeeconservation.org/bees-needs/
One plant that I would recommend for encouraging bees is Lavender, it smells beautiful and can also be used to make lavender bags which make lovely gifts, are good for using leftover fabric and can help aid sleep (useful if you are like me and struggle to sleep) https://www.sewretro.co.uk/post/2017/06/07/how-to-make-lavender-bags .
As I mentioned previously, I have started using solid shampoo and conditioner bars in order to cut down on my plastic waste and to see if it improved my hair quality.
Research suggests that sulfates, (the chemicals that help create the foamy texture when using shampoo and strip away oil and dirt https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/327013), can strip moisture and natural oils away from the hair, leading to increased frizziness and dry hair. It can also increase scalp sensitivity and irritation from skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. I have naturally dry and frizzy thick hair (which admittedly hasn't been helped by bleaching it, but I have stopped doing that) so I have found that since switching to solid bars my hair is more manageable and I can actually brush it without adding any smoothing product in.
I am excited to say that I have found a sustainable shop based in Great Yarmouth which I am delighted about as Great Yarmouth is my nearest town and I am always on the hunt for local sustainable stores! Their business name is Green Dreaming and they are based in Wrights Art Shop 15 Stanley Road, NR304JB Great Yarmouth https://www.facebook.com/greendreamings/ . It took me a little while to find it on foot as I accidentally took the long route (thank you Google Maps) but it is definitely doable and easy to find.
One of the things I was most excited about is that Green Dreaming stock Ecover products. Ecover was started in the late 80s and they create eco-friendly household cleaning products which include washing up liquid, laundry products and fragrance-free cleaning products suitable for people with skin allergies. As well as being plant-based, their bottles are made from previously recycled bottles and some products are refillable https://www.ecover.com/. The refillable products are Washing Up Liquids, Laundry Liquids and All-Purpose Cleaners and each bottle can be used more than fifty times!
As well as Ecover products, Green Dreaming also stock biodegradable baby wipes, metal straws, bamboo toothbrushes, solid shampoo/conditioner bars, compostable food and waste bags and more. As you can see, they have plenty of reasonably priced options and are always looking for new products to stock.

These were my purchases and I am very happy with them! I have not used the solid shampoo bar yet as I am still using my original bar but this one smells wonderful so I look forward to using it. My inexpert photography makes it appear that the washing up liquid is half full, definitely not the case!
So if you are looking to support a small sustainable business, I would definitely urge you to visit Green Dreaming https://www.facebook.com/pg/greendreamings/shop/?ref=page_internal .
Two more of my favourite Vintage purchases, both from the 60s!

Thanks for reading everyone, I am now off to enjoy the sunshine!
