Bookshop!

Updated: Dec 31, 2020

Hello everyone,

It is fair to say that I am a voracious reader and have been ever since I was a young child, I was (and still am) frequently found with my head in a good book!

It is fair to say that independent bookshops need our help more than ever now and so although I rarely buy new books, I have decided to treat myself to one new book a month as a treat. I recently discovered Bookshop.org a brilliant online bookshop created to help local independent bookshops thrive as more people buy books online instead of the high street. When someone purchases a book on Bookshop, the order will contribute to an earnings pool which will be evenly shared bertween independent bookshops.

However, if you would prefer to buy directly from a specific local bookshop there is a map on the website that allows you to search for nearby bookstores (brilliant idea) and order from them directly, by doing this the bookshop will receive the full profit from your order. So far, Bookshop have raised £154,262.60p for local bookshops which is just incredible!

Now, Bookshop also offer an affliate programme which I have signed up for and have created my own bookshop on their website. Anyone can sign up to be an Affliate and I would recommend doing so, when someone makes a purchase via my link, I would earn a 10% comission and a matching amount (10%) would be given to independent bookshops which I think is absolutely brilliant. My bookshop is still growing, but here is a link to the books I have recommended so far: https://uk.bookshop.org/shop/KNicholls (Disclosure: If you buy books linked to my site, I may earn a commission from Bookshop.org, whose fees support independent bookshops).

My purchase this month from Bookshop was the book "Lady Sidekick: 50 Tired Tropes for Women" by Anneka Harry whom I was lucky enough to interview recently https://www.knicholls.co.uk/post/interview-with-anneka-harry-producer-author-and-voice-over-artist .

The book arrived quickly and in perfect condition within three days and I was very excited to open it, there is nothing quite like smelling a brand new book (come on book lovers, we all do it!)

'Lady Sidekick' is filled with brilliant illustrations and sarcastic, tongue in cheek descriptions of the many cliches and tropes inflicted upon women in life and the media! If you are interested in finding out more about this book here is a link https://uk.bookshop.org/a/2216/9780750995252 (Disclosure: If you buy books linked to my site, I may earn a commission from Bookshop.org, whose fees support independent bookshops). I have not yet decided which book I will purchase next month, but I am excited to do so knowing I am helping independent book stores to flourish.

Books are and have always been an important of my life and I am lucky that I have always had access to them.

However, some people are not as fortunate and the publishing company Penguin have teamed up with Bookshop to help get books to those who need them the most in collaboration with Neighbourly. From the 16th November to the 21st December, Penguin will donate a book to a grass root cause such as a food bank or a homeless shelter everytime a purchase is made from their 'Christmas Book List' https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/it-begins-with-a-book . I think this is a wonderful idea and wholeheartedly support it.

Thanks all for reading, I am off to go snuggle up with a book!
