A chat with 'The Anchors'

Here is your introduction to The Anchors', an Italian Pirate Metal band based in London.

They are a fairly recent band (started as a duo four years ago), but have already attracted some attention in the music industry, in fact they have already had a song written for them by Christopher Bowes (of Alestorm and Gloryhammer fame). He heard one of their songs online, contacted them and two days later, sent them the single 'Quest for the Golden Shoe', his one requirement was to make sure they used the song!

The adventure first started in 2019 when Captain John Weak (vocalist and guitarist) was bored and drinking Carribean Twist rum with his housemate Tordig Shovel (drummer), Tordig has a cat (Brother Pawder) which helped inspire the song 'Señor Pirata', a song I particularly enjoyed (I am a simple woman, I like cats and I like pirate metal!).

They released their first two singles in 2023 and their first EP 'Quest For The Golden Shoe' in December last year. Since then, they have performed at HRH Spring Break 2 (their first ever gig!) , various London venues and continue to work on new material. Their songs are inspired by everything, including prawns, silver coins and rum, their musical influences include; Rhapsody of Fire, Skap and Metallica.

One of the most enjoyable facts for me about this band, is that they do not take themselves too seriously (their live cover of Spongebob helped confirm this), but they are talented and know how to perform. I would not be surprised to see them touring with Alestorm in the future, especially since they are already on Christopher Bowes radar and much like Alestorm, know how to throw a party.
